Exposed beams can bring a level of warmth and intimacy into a modern home. Check out the three below that we think are great!
This modern home (featured on Freshome) could not be any more breathtaking. It would literally feel like living in a work of art!
Modern homes can often seem cold because of their typically neutral color palette. I love the accents of modern art in this home. I think the color and whimsical daisies really make the home more fun and inviting.
Modern Doors, hmm. At last we are renovating our own home in Charleston, SC. The search begins to source products that are unique and modern in nature. These products cannot be found on the shelves of large do it yourself stores. So where do you go? The Sliding Door Company.
After an exhaustive search for unique interior doors I finally found the right company, who seems to be on their game. And in fact, the only company I got a response from. Incredible!
Check out some of these modern door designs:
This is a hard to find swing door, for interior use, the only example I could find in the country, from The Sliding Door Company.
This is a double hung version, which looks great. Laminated glass is an option which gives you gloss on both sides
of the door. Another option that I could only find at the Sliding Door Company.
Modern living is part style and part comfort, a combination of design and practicality that enriches our lives. So it’s no wonder we get all worked up when we see new pieces of furniture that practically beg us to cheer them on and talk them up. It’s contemporary interior design at its very best.
The Stingray Veneer Rocking Chair
Winner of the “Interior Innovation Award Cologne 2008″. The Stingray rocking chair in veneer by young Danish designer Thomas Pedersen was conceived as an innovative reworking of his earlier Stingray in plastic. Pedersen’s rising prominence in the international design world can partly be explained by his remarkable ability to challenge familiar assumptions and his unwavering persistence to extend the previous boundaries of design. Stingray introduces a new meaning to the traditional rocking chair.
Your comfort deserves this attention to detail. This Modern Leather Sectional takes modern style and adds functionality and the small details that push it over the top. The cream color of the base is accented by dual-toned, bright-red-and-cream pillows in a mature fashion, and the detailed stitching on the corners of the sofa infuses it with unique personality. The guest at one end of this sofa can enjoy resting his or her feet on the elongated, cushioned lounging rest, and the guest on the other end will be able to rest his or her drink on the attached mini-table. You will find the Modern Leather Sectional at LAFlat for $1,620.00 (add $800 for matching chaise and $250 for matching ottoman).

When things are not running as they should, industrious professionals pave a smoother road. Such is the case with Portland, OR, architects Building Arts Workshop LLC. The firm confronted a daunting task: how to transform their work from a vision to a reality. They encountered the obvious space/cost challenges while living in San Francisco, where before moving north they ran their practice. But Portland represented a clean slate. Not only was it a homecoming for the firm — one of the partners, Tracy Prose, grew up in Eugene — but also the firm went to work creating a space that was as an example of their work, and a place in which they could see themselves living.
The property consists of two connecting townhouses.
The townhouses retain independent spaces. Connected by one jointed garage, the property is at once divided and defined by its union of modern architectural technique and focus on personal style.
Portland is excited to have these innovative architects residing in their neck of the woods. They represent the best of Portland’s contemporary real estate, and their future work should prove interesting and capture the spirit of this unique Northwestern city.

Modern design is not immune to the economy; instead it gains more focus and produces superior products.
And in these dark economic times it’s important to focus on the lights. Modern lights, that is. Here’s a couple we find crave-able.

Those of us with older family members who dismiss our complaints of sitting all day as frivolous don’t understand the plight of our compacted spines, curled knuckles and bent knees. Fortunately, Herman Miller, modern office-ware designer extraordinaire, sympathizes with us, as evidenced by his line of modern office chairs that are crafted with hunched frames in mind. These chairs represent a significant step forward in the world of modern interior design.
May we introduce, Embody
From the Web site:
You point, click, and fixate on your computer screen. And you sit still for hours. Your body screams, “Move!” … Unless you’re seated in Embody.
Designed specifically for people who interact with computers for long periods of time, Embody is a huge leap forward in seating. With a back that is “alive,” mimicking your spine to promote health-positive sitting, Embody creates harmony between you and your computer. In fact, Embody is the first work chair that supports your mind as well as your body, enabling you to focus, think clearly, and create.
California is enduring a budget crisis that could potentially bankrupt the entire state. Given this climate, it is difficult to focus on modern interior design, the very concept of which may strike some as futile. But if you look at some of the innovative work being done in Sacramento, and then consider the amount of people involved, the exchanging of funds, and the improvement of the environment, it is plain to see how Sacramento modern design is working to benefit the economy.
