The Linnie House in Venice, CA is sandwiched between two large, traditional homes. It has a unique design and brave artistry, which bolster its stand-alone-attitude and celebration of modern architecture and design.

It was designed by the Michele Saee architecture studio, and demonstrates the power of Los Angeles’s modern architecture.

Modern Home in LA

From the Web site:

L.A. is defined by in between space, as well as shelters. In the melding of cultures, a new order is established that challenges the legitimacy of social and physical hierarchies. The Linnie Canal house uses this methodology of uncertainty to generate its form. The habitable areas of the house are the spaces formed by the chance result of un-programmed surface areas converging, diverging, and layering. Once established, those areas where spaces occur are programmed to meet the needs of the house’s occupants. With further development, the spaces are refined, and a unique order is made apparent.

We’re thinking of ways to scale back. The recession hurts. But we love furniture. This recession will go away, right? And good furniture won’t. When that day comes, we want to be happy, comfortable and satisfied with our modern interior design choices.

So, for your viewing pleasure, here are some photos of furniture by the Italian designer, Rendi.

Fendi

From the Web site:

THE FENDI CASA HOME COLLECTION was created in 1989 as a natural evolution and a new important chapter of a great Italian business epic characterized by an unlimited creativity.

THE BRAND, with its on going exploration of new creative fields in line with the changing flow of contemporary living, was bound to develop a new, coherent project related to furnishing as a consistent brand extension of Fendi experimental work. This collection was launched in collaboration with Club House Italia, a company established in the 1970s by Alberto Vignatelli and specialized in the production of upholstered furniture and related raw materials; its aim is to “dress up” rooms in a way which is very similar to how Fendi designs its fur and precious leather coats, clothes and accessories.

New York’s Modern Lofts

Posted: March 18th, 2009

Holy rooftop, Batman!

We normally define new modern homes as green, affordable and winking with smart design. But the architecture at the Five Franklin Place Lofts, while surely not affordable or especially green, inspires us like few building lofts can.

These lofts display the awesome power of opulence. The design is ultra-modern. The amenities smell like a million dollars. And the view? You want the view? You can’t handle the view.

Contemporary Vancouver Home

The Vancouver architects at Splyce Design create bold designs and sleek structures. Their projects have a clean, sturdy appeal; it is innovative, challenging, and, for devotees of modern architecture, satisfying.

The images below come from the Mantel residence.

Splyce Modern Home

From the Web site:

Splyce is an architectural design studio producing modern projects ranging in size, scope and budget from new homes, to residential and commercial renovations to custom furniture and landscapes.

An underlying interest in all scales of work is how thoughtfully designed objects and spaces have the ability to inspire, engage our senses, and ultimately influence our quality of life. The experiential qualities of a space, and how things feel both physically and aesthetically, are carefully considered throughout the design stage. The result is highly articulated designs that exude warmth and comfort while maintaining a distinctly modern sensibility.

There you have it. One of Vancouver’s modern homes, crafted with skill and ingenuity by Splyce Design.

California is a United States destination. People long for its beaches, climate, and…architecture. Styles abound in diverse neighborhoods. Modern architecture flourishes here, with unique bungalows, flamboyant cottages and renovated ranch homes.

Below is an example of a California contemporary home.

The Baltazar Residence in San Diego offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean through its second story steel frame and glass window perimeter.

Baltazar Residence

Baltazar Residence

Described in Architectural Lab as:

A small one story bungalow sat on a substandard lot between two nondescript condominiums. Within that small house lived a growing family with a modern aesthetic who wanted to take advantage of the ocean views their site offered while adding square footage. The house has a concrete base that rises out of the ground with a minimal amount of openings until the second story, where it turns into a steel frame with a glass window wall that offers a panoramic view out to the Pacific Ocean.

Modern Skyscraper in Manhattan

Jean Nouvel’s design for the Tower Verre in New York City — also known as the MoMA Expansion Tower — is both a marvel of modern architecture and sophisticated practicality. Limited in size by its surroundings and rising high enough to warrant concerns about wind and other airborne challenges, the Tower Verre is comprised of solar panels and steel framing.

Tower Verre NYC

The Tower will stand 1,250 feet and house 75 floors.

Tower Verre NYC

The building will host galleries, a 5 star hotel, and 8 star residential apartments. Each floor will have 17,000 square feet, with the base spreading for 40,000 square feet.

Tower Verre NYC

The Tower Verre is an example of New York’s best modern architecture. But as of December, 2008, the project has been put on hold, due to the current recession.
